SDN Concept in Generalized Mobile Network Architectures

Standardisation

Standardisation strategy

SIGMONA project will propose the areas requiring open standards and identify the relevant standards bodies and standards for the virtualization of the mobile networks. The project also aims to define the key technical evolution requirements of the standards, and ultimately provide contributions to the standards bodies. The project will follow a phased approach in analyzing the standardization needs, making a standardization plan, and ultimately contributing to the selected standardization bodies. All the WPs will look into these standardization aspects in their own area. The results are consolidated and reported in four (4) phases as a part of the WP1 outputs:

  • Need areas for open standards and identification of the main standardization bodies and relevant standards
  • Role of different standards and main technical evolution requirements
  • Standardization plan and technical concepts for the standards evolution
  • List and description of submitted and future standards contributions

Standardisation bodies

ETSI NFV ISG

The ETSI Industry Specification Group for Network Functions Virtualization (ISG NFV) aims to develop requirements and architecture specifications for the hardware and software infrastructure required to support these virtualized functions, as well as guidelines for developing network functions.

Open Network Foundation (ONF) (https://www.opennetworking.org/en/about/onf-overview)

Open Networking Foundation (ONF) is a user-driven organization dedicated to the promotion and adoption of Software-Defined Networking (SDN) through open standards development.
